Adult Sunday School Classes
Wesley Class is a class for young adults ages... whatever. We combine Bible study and coffee with learning how to enhance our relationships with Christ and with each other.  The focus is on applying the lessons to everyday life, through prayer, quiet time, and sharing the Good News with others.  We are currently engaged in a study Christian freedom based on the Beth Moore book “Breaking Free.”
LIZZIE GREY CHANDLER CLASS: This class is named for one of Bethany's late members whose faith made a tremendous impression on all who knew her.  Our class meets downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45, starting with coffee and Fellowship. Class members are encouraged to participate in discussion and class activities.  We learn some things, we  share some things, and we grow in our faith.   We discuss many current and controversial books such as "The Shack", "Think on These Things", "Your Money Counts", etc.  We are also involved in local missions, such as rebuilding hurricane-damaged homes in eastern North Carolina.  Other missions include working in the Durham Soup Kitchen, the MERCI Center for disaster relief, and the Durham Rescue Mission.  Our class works a booth at the Duke football games to fund our mission work.
CORNELIA CLASS: The Cornelia Bible Class is made up mostly of the oldest members of Bethany. We  meet in the Cornelia classroom on Sundays at 9:45. Our Sunday School lessons  come from the Cokesbury Adult Bible Studies books. Due to our age group (65+), we have  much discussion brought from both our knowledge of the Bible and our many life  experiences. Our mission work is primarily local. We are very active in Meals on  Wheels, the Urban Society Food Pantry, the Urban Ministry Program, and the  church work areas of Acolytes and Flowers/Paraments.  The  Cornelia Class welcomes new members because we are friendly, have dedicated and  knowledgeable teachers, and we love the Lord.
YOUNG BUILDERS CLASS: The Young Builders Class meets  in the Harvey Black Chapel each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. We have 30 members on roll  with an average attendance of 22. We range in age from the lower fifties to the eighties. We may seem old in age, but we are young at heart.
Our projects include bake sales, pepper and flavoring sales,  luminary sales at Christmas time, and special offerings as needed. We support both the Men's and Women's divisions at the Durham Rescue Mission, the Battered  Women's Coalition, and the Ten Dollar Club. We make fruit baskets for all the  shut-ins at Thanksgiving and play Santa to a needy family at Christmas. All of  our class money is spent on others; never ourselves. Our teachers are class members or the church  minister.
We welcome all who are interested in learning more about the  Bible and putting their energies toward bettering our local community.
