The Lizzie Grey Chandler Sunday School class recently completed a mission project to renovate a room over at the old Durham Inn off Interstate 85 in Durham.   This was in cooperation with the Durham Rescue Mission under the guidance of Gail Mills, wife of Durham Rescue's director Ernie Mills.  The Inn will be used to provide additional shelter space for Durham's homeless.
"Before"
The project took several months to complete.  We replaced the toilet and sink, re-tiled the bathroom floor, cleaned the carpet, painted the walls, and installed the furniture.
The class collected or purchased several pieces of used furniture to place in the room, along with certain items as stipulated by the project.  John Long was the project coordinator, while Earl Kirby and Dan Portaro gathered, refinished, and cleaned the furniture.
"After"
(With thanks to Dan Portaro and Earl Kirby)
