The Gospel - in a nutshell
Sharing the Faith:
Bethany's Evangelism Team page
Have you heard the Good News about Jesus Christ?    Maybe you just stumbled across this site while surfing the Net.  Or maybe you're searching for something.  Talk to us. Or come by some Sunday; we've got plenty of folks who can share what Jesus has done for them.
The Gospel according to Ann
"Becoming a
Contagious Christian"
This course is based on the book "Becoming a Contagious Christian" , by Bill Hybels and Mark Mittelberg (Zondarvan, 1994).  The purpose is to train each Christian to share the Gospel in a style that's appropriate for them.

At right is Ann Schonkweiler's presentation of the Gospel, which she designed in this class.
Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures...                            (I Corinthians 15:1-4)
Bring-a-friend Sunday, 2002
Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.

Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?", Nathanael asked. "
Come and see", said Philip. (John 1:42,43; 46-48)
Bring-a-Friend Sunday: Bethany's members are encouraged to, well, just invite their friends, neighbors, and co-workers to chuch. They'll meet other Christians, and they just may hear the Gospel for the first time.

"Alpha" Course:
Brian Tanner refers to Alpha as "Christianity 101", and he's right, but the target audience isn't Christians - it's skeptics and seekers who just might be open to the truth.  The format is a series of lectures with titles like, "Christianity:  Boring, Untrue, Irrelevant?", "Who is Jesus?", and "How can I make the most out of the rest of my life?", followed by discussion.  And pretty good dinners too.
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Bethany United Methodist Church welcomes all that enter to worship here.  If you are visiting and looking for a church to call your home, Bethany UMC invites you to prayerfully consider our family of the faithful.  If you are already United Methodist or are a baptized member of another denomination, we will be happy to receive you by transfer of letter.  If you have not been baptized, Bethany would consider it a joy to have you proclaim your faith in Jesus Christ and begin your Christian journey with us.  Pastor Bryan welcomes all requests to consider membership and is more than happy to visit with you at your invitation.
